Headache

Headache is a very common problem. The vast majority of headaches, even though they can be disabling for patients, will be benign.
 
Important points in the history
  • Pattern
    • Intermittent
    • Continuous
    • Diurnal variation / time of day with maximum pain
    • E.g. a tension headache is more likely to occur towards the end of the day / working day – and patients are unlikely to wake with symptoms.
  • Speed of onset
  • Effect of posture and movement
  • Location of pain
  • Associated symptoms
